The theme is... MAGIC! Here's Elizabeth Berrien's entry... 25 yr retrospective set of magical fantasy creatures, created from 1982 to 2007! Elizabeth Berrien's entry in this international wire sculpture competition created quite a stir!

Tumnus the Faun - Yes, that is Tumnus - tumnus the faun wire sculpture art by elizabeth berrien

though he's too disreputable to merit the "Mister"... Fauns are really just street-legal Satyrs... tumnus the faun wire sculpture art by elizabeth berrien

Tumnus was commissioned last summer,by author Laurel Doud for her garden - I like what she did for the filmy "between worlds" backdrop.

and their "DRAG-ster" Kinetic Dragon wire sculpture vehicle...

Their other transportation includes a Pegasus... currently flying in an airport... louisville airport pegasus wire sculpture art by artist and wire sculptor elizabeth berrien

and a Unicorne... unicorn head, fantasy wire sculpture art by wire sculptor elizabeth berrien

So they all joy-ride til first faint rays of dawn, when the Phoenix gives voice And all these wiry friends are as magic as the whole great world, which I like to think of cradled within the protection of great healing hands...

*The Controversy

Elizabeth Berrien entered all the above monumental wire sculptures, connected by a story line, as a set for her "group" entry in the Wire Challenge competition.

Berrien's entry was displayed without the vital, connecting story line. Votes were assigned to individual works rather than to the set as a whole. The effect was similar to breaking up a chess set, awarding votes to a favored Bishop, Knight, King or Queen - rather than to the chess set as a unit.

When voting had come to a close, Elizabeth's collective wire sculpture group entry had achieved the high count total of 73 points. However, a wire sculpture by another wire sculptor which achieved 71 points was declared "a clear winner". Berrien's appeal of the ruling was denied.

Hence the controversy, and the asterisk.
