Fishes & Marine 1 | Fishes & Marine 2 | Marine Mammals

Fishes and other marine life present an exciting variety of patterning. Elizabeth Berrien painstakingly follows the lines and complexities of each fish, infusing them with the same energy and spirit as her wire sculptures of land animals.
Coelecanth wire sculpture by Elizabeth Berrien.
"Fantasy" Coelecanth Impossible movement, but one of the artist's all-time favorites. In 1977 she created this Coelecanth, twisting it scale by scale to instill that glorious curve of movement.

coelecanth wire sculpture
"Correct" Coelecanth. "At the time, I guessed that coelecanths might move with the sinuousity of a Siamese fighting fish. Now I know they have much less range of movement. Even though my later Coelecanths are more correct, I love the magic of my Fantasy Coelecanth."

Fantasy Coelacanth was photographed against a solid background. Correct Coelecanth was photographed against a mixed background - giving it a semi-translucent appearance but not showing much detail. As soon as someone commissions the next Correct Coelacanth, we'll post a sharper image.
squid wire sculpture
Squid Part of an award-winning installation with a Sea Lion and Kelp commissioned by Jim and Ann Lintz. The Sea Lion is on our Marine Mammal page. This sculpture was created from fine, 28-gauge wire, note the intricate lace-like patterning down its back.
croc wire sculpture
