"Birds,
Bridges and Bikes..." Ghostlike wire hawks echo within the
visitor center... further in, wire bridge and a pair of men's and
women's vintage Schwinn bicycles enhance the regional recreational
themes.
The see-thru nature of wire sulpture lens an exciting sense of spirit
and movement to a space, while allowing the airiness of the space to
remain fully optimized.

In bidding for the contract to
build the
Blue Ridge Parkway project, Hadley
Exhibits of Buffalo, NY, commissioned Elizabeth Berrien to create
site-specific sample "wire and rod objects" of hawks, 15-ft bridges and
vintage bikes. According to the NPS project architect and
designer, the decision was made to award the project to Hadley Exhibits
rather than another contract bidder... based on the brilliant
excellence and suitability of Berrien's wire sculptures.
These 2D wire sculptures became essential interpretive
elements of National Park Services' Blue Ridge Parkway Destination at
Asheville, NC.
During installation, Berrien was informed that specs for the
room-spanning wire bridges had been changed - they needed to be reduced
from 15ft to 13.5.
The artist accomplished the emergency custom modification on-site,
completing all wire and rod elements within deadline.

| Considering the magnitude of
the space needing interpretive exhibit sculptures, in 2007 Berrien
produced a stellar array
of custom, site specific wire sculpture bridges, birds and bikes to set
the character of the space... for just under $65,000. The airy nature
of wire sculpture requires less materials than the heavier, more
tradition metal and wood sculptures, creating a smaller footprint...
